Narskuttelu Oy begins its journey toward in-house medical device manufacturing

Narskuttelu Oy has opened a new chapter in its company history. The Kitee-based company has begun a transition aimed at bringing medical device manufacturing expertise and production into its own laboratories. At the heart of this shift is the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745), which sets the standards for product safety and quality. While there has been public discussion regarding the "lack of courage" among Finnish companies, Narskuttelu Oy, as a small business, has chosen a different path. Behind us are three years of development and ensuring regulatory compliance. Now, the company is moving into the finalization phase, where paperwork and practical manufacturing know-how come together.

From laboratory to production – transferring expertise in-house Many companies outsource manufacturing for cost reasons, but Narskuttelu Oy believes that in-house production enables a more efficient dialogue between production and R&D, allowing for the introduction of innovative products and manufacturing technologies to the market. In the company’s laboratory, we are currently refining not only our products but also our manufacturing processes. This involves learning new technical skills and transforming our facilities into production units that comply with demanding regulations. When manufacturing expertise is close to product development, we can react faster to new innovations.

This journey requires courage and endurance. The road is sometimes bumpy and a bit heavy for a small company, but our goal is a clear vision: domestic medical devices produced in our own facilities.
